How often do we say to ourselves, “New year / New me” and go about setting goals for the new year? Now that we are finally done with 2020 and are a few days into 2021, that is what I am saying to myself. “Time for a change.”…“Time to try something different.” is what I have been thinking to myself for the last few weeks and today I am pulling the trigger. I am going to try something new and different this year and that is write a recurring blog post called “Random Thoughts of a Tax Advisor”.

Most, if not all blog posts on CPA websites tend to be more technical or informative in nature. Usually, they are about some recent tax law or some other accounting change that may affect clients and taxpayers. I have even wrote such blog posts for Isler CPA. When I honestly look back at those blog posts, my thought is that they are dry in nature and usually don’t capture my personality. If you need any examples of such a post, you can read one I wrote here called, “Eugene – Community Safety Payroll Tax – What You Need to Know”. It had some good information; but let’s be honest, it was kind of dry and only applied to a certain number of people.

My hope and goal with this recurring blog post is to move away from some of the technical issues and move towards some every day conversation I have with my clients and to let more of my personality show in the blog posts. My final goal will be to share with you things I have seen over my 15+ years career as a CPA that go beyond the Internal Revenue Code and the bottom tax dollar.

Just to give you a flavor of future blog posts; one post I want to write will be titled, “Do you really want to save on taxes?”. Just to keep you hanging, I won’t tell you what it will be about. I can tell you though, I have had a similar conversion with a client. Another blog post will be titled “Who is afraid of the big bad wolf? ” You can probably guess what this one will be about and that is should we be afraid of the IRS. I will go into this more later.

In any case, I hope you join me on my blogging journey in 2021…and maybe beyond??? I am sure there will some dry, technical, and informative blog posts along the way…but hopefully I can keep most of them informative, colorful, and entertaining.

Here’s to a better 2021 than 2020!
